ABT Day Nineteen

Well, today was a memorable day! Amanda had her technique and pointe classes and also had a modern class with Tina Fehlandt and repertoire. She was pretty tired when she came out of class, so of course because today is Friday, we thought we needed to celebrate the start of the weekend.

I posted a picture of the outside of the ABT studios at 890 Broadway. ABT is housed in an older but nice building with interesting architecture.
While Amanda was in class today, I ventured near the Lincoln Center area to do some shopping. While I was there, I took a picture of the Romeo and Juliet sign, and there you can see Paloma Herrera in the picture.

But, back to celebrating the weekend. Amanda and I knew we wanted to go to a restaurant for dinner as we had been eating in all week.
But...where should we go...should we try someplace new? We unanimously decided where to go for dinner and I bet that you could never guess in in a million years where we decided to go. That's right--Pete's Tavern.
We thought that since the readers of this blog are becoming well acquainted with Pete's Tavern, that you might be interested in a little history of
the restaurant which can be found on the Pete's
Tavern website:

Even if you have never been to Pete's Tavern you probably already know this local Gramercy Park legend. Pete's is often seen on television, appearing on CNN, VH-1, BBC, Seinfeld, Law and Order, Sex and the City, Fox Cable News and The Food Network.
It has been showcased in several motion pictures, including Ragtime, Endless Love, and the Sony Imax feature Across the Sea of Time. Pete's has also been in many print and television advertisements for such companies as Hanes, Miller Beer and Samuel Adams Brewery. Pete's Tavern first opened its doors in 1864. From that date to today, it has remained open.

This achievement makes Pete's both an official historical landmark and the longest continuously operating bar and restaurant in New York City. Not even Prohibition force Pete's to close its doors: it remained open disguised as a flower shop. Pete's is proud of its history and steadfastly maintains its traditions. It looks as exactly the as same as when its most celebrated regular O. Henry wrote the classic Gift of the Magi here at his favorite booth by the front doors, in 1904.

Anyway, we had a yummy dinner as usual, and I would say a couple of Pete's employees seemed genuinely glad to see us, ha! They were very attentive as we ordered and we received a couple of waves from employees behind the bar. Wow, we feel like regulars and almost like real New Yorkers! We shall be sad to leave Pete's behind when we return to Virginia!
So, then it was back to our apartment for a relaxing evening! Bruce and Melissa will be coming early tomorrow morning as we will be seeing Chicago tomorrow. We are looking forward to that and I think that Amanda is looking forward to a little rest from her 9:00 - 5:00 dancing schedule.

We hope you have a good weekend--

Beth and Amanda

  2. (sorry - reposting - found a typo -can't have that!)

It sounds like you are really enjoying your time in NYC - "Pete's" is certainly going to miss their Virginia customers.

It will be nice to have the family with you tomorrow - am sure Muffin will especially enjoy the visit. The time seems to be going by very quickly - can hardly believe that you only have two weeks more.

    Have a good time tomorrow.
    Love, Mom/Grandma
